Get Creative with Stop Motion Animation

One exciting option for creative kids this half term is the Stop Motion Animation 1-day workshop with Yellow Mouse Studios Ltd at The White Room Creative Space Devon in Crediton, taking place on Friday 30th May. Aimed at young people aged 7–11, the workshop is led by animation trainers Summer and Hella, who will guide participants through the process of bringing characters to life using plasticine and craft materials.

The ever-popular Emmylou’s Fine Art Workshops are back at The White Room Creative Space Devon in Crediton for the May half term. With morning sessions on Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th May, these workshops offer children a chance to explore a wide range of artistic themes and techniques in a fun, creative setting. Drop-In Craft Fun at The Bookery

Families are invited to The Bookery on Crediton High Street for a creative drop-in craft session this Wednesday 28th May. Running from 10am to 2pm, children can make Hungry Caterpillars, model cakes, and butterflies and take home free badges, bookmarks and stickers. It’s a relaxed, hands-on activity for all ages — and no booking is required, so you can simply pop in and enjoy the fun.

Handmade Resin Workshop at Crediton Library

Those who enjoy getting creative won’t want to miss the Handmade Resin Workshop with artist Iryna Kuts, taking place at Crediton Library on Saturday 24th May from 10:00am to 12:30pm. Participants will have the chance to make their own coasters, trinket trays, figures and more. The workshop is suitable for all skill levels, and all materials are provided. Libro’s Friends Reading Challenge

Also running at Crediton Library is Libro’s Friends, a free reading challenge for children aged 0–5. Little ones can join Libro the cat on a fun quest to find his eight special animal friends hidden around the library. Each discovery earns a collectible sticker, and children will receive a special booklet to track their progress. It’s a lovely way to encourage early reading and exploration. Elmer Craft Session and Story Trail

Crediton Library is also offering a free drop-in Elmer-themed craft and colouring session on Tuesday 27th May from 2pm to 4pm. In addition, families can enjoy an Elmer and Friends trail, with characters hidden around the library. The trail will be available throughout the half-term holidays, providing a fun and interactive way to explore the space.

Creative Craft Workshops with Paint Pots of Devon

Paint Pots of Devon is offering two engaging workshops during the May half term, both suitable for children aged 6 and over. On Wednesday 28th May, 10:00–11:15am, children can join the “Every Little Hippo Can” session, which includes story time, a hippo-themed craft, games and then paint their own keepsake hippo.

On Thursday 29th May, 10:00–11:15am, the “Father’s Day Plaque Painting” workshop invites children to create a special plaque and card for Father’s Day. Both sessions are a drop-off session and includes squash and a biscuit. Spaces are limited and bookings can be made by messaging Paint Pots of Devon directly.

Paddling Pools Reopen at Newcombes Meadow

Families can enjoy some splashy fun as the paddling pools at Newcombes Meadow, Crediton reopen on Monday 26th May (weather permitting). Open daily from 10am to 7pm, the pools are a great way to cool off and relax during the warmer days of half term. Visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic and enjoy the sunshine, remember sunscream, and keep the area tidy by using the bins provided or taking rubbish home.

If the weather is particularly warm and the pools are ready, there may even be an early opening from Friday 23rd May — so keep an eye out for updates from Mid Devon District Council.

Half Term Pony Fun at Hunterswood Riding School

For families seeking an active and animal-filled holiday club, Hunterswood Riding School, Pony Club & Livery Stables offers Half Term Pony Fun sessions. Children of all ages and abilities are welcome to meet ponies, take riding lessons, enjoy show jumping, learn stable management, groom the ponies and more.

Each day features a flexible schedule of activities that may change depending on the weather and the children’s abilities, ensuring everyone has a great experience.
