With Spring half term approaching, we’ve rounded up the best local events and activities to keep your children busy and having fun. Check out our top picks for a memorable break!
This half term, Crediton Library has some great activities for families. On Monday 17th February Amanda from the Mid Devon Family Hub team will be hosting drop-in sessions where parents and carers can learn about local support services and groups. She will also have baby-weighing scales available for new parents to check their baby’s weight. These sessions will run from 10am to 12pm and again from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. Later in the week, on Friday 21st February from 10am to 12pm, children can enjoy a free butterfly mobile craft activity, along with colouring and word searches.

Paint Pots of Devon is bringing back its popular Play with Clay Workshop. Perfect for children aged 6 and over, this fun and creative session gives kids the chance to design their own clay masterpiece using a variety of cutters and tools. They’ll also get to paint their creation on the day, with finished pieces ready for collection two weeks later. This half term, our wonderful local independent bookshop, The Bookery, is hosting a fun and free crafting session on Wednesday 19th February. Children aged 5 and over can drop in anytime between 10 am and 4 pm to create a colourful 3D paper hot air balloon while parents browse the books. Plus, there will be free stickers and bookmarks to take home! Don’t miss this creative holiday activity.

Get ready for a magical adventure with The Great Baldini at Crediton Arts Centre! Taking place on Saturday 22nd February, the family magic show promises a joyously silly romp filled with laughter for both children and parents. Expect a fun-packed performance featuring magic, puppetry, escapology, and plenty of surprises - including lots and lots of sweets! If you venture into the city then Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM) is hosting The Dartmoor Puppets' Prehistoric Adventure, a captivating new show by Dartmoor-based theatre company MED Theatre. Taking place on Thursday 20th February, this magical performance brings ancient Dartmoor to life, when the land was covered in lush forests, home to wolves, bears, and early human settlers in stone huts. With three showings at 10.30am, 11.30am, and 1.30pm, there are plenty of chances to join the adventure. Tickets are £3.50 per person and can be booked online.

To round off a fantastic half term of local activities, don’t forget to find out more about Kick Start Art, a brand new community art initiative from the Crediton Heart Project. Open to all school-aged children in Crediton and its surrounding villages, this exciting project is led by Linda Williamson, a retired teacher with 30 years of experience in local schools. Passionate about inspiring creativity, Linda and the Crediton Heart Project have designed Kick Start Art to encourage children to explore new artistic techniques, learn about different artists, and most importantly, have fun!
