Continuing the series about his favourite walks, Tom Davies takes us along a 3.3 mile route from Crediton station to Hookway and back again, with wonderful views to the east, south and west of Crediton. The walk takes about 1 hour 30 minutes.
Mauve dashed line shows route

Start at the railway station car park (A) and bear right past the entrances to RGB Building Supplies  and Brinicombes  and enter the golf course.  Follow the signs straight across the course between an avenue of trees, passing over the Yeo at Kersford Bridge (B) and turning left towards Hookway Down Wood with the clubhouse on your right. Leave the course via a track and join the lane at (C).

At Downes Golf Course, follow the signs straight across the course between an avenue of trees.

Turn left and walk up the hill past the turning to Hookway  and through the cutting. When you reach the top of this hill take the signposted track on the right (D). Enjoy the splendid views towards Newton St. Cyres and Killerton but look out for a green lane on your right just before a farm gate (E)

The Creedy Valley

Ignore the first footpath on your right and continue along the farm track you are on until you meet a second footpath sign indicating a track coming up from Smallbrook Farm on your left. Soon after this and immediately before a gate across the farm track, take the path signposted on your right and heading down a green lane towards Hookway.

Towards the Raddon Hills from above Hookway.

Descend the green lane until you reach Glover Cottage (F) where you take a left turn and follow the signs up through a field until you reach Rudge Farm (G). Pass through the farmyard noting the flock of peacocks usually wandering around, and within 50m find a green lane on your right. Follow the signs and enjoy the views and then arrive at the road at (H).

Looking Towards Posbury.

Turn right and walk downhill to Fordton Cross (I) and carry straight on to Fordton and the station car park. If walking along the road is not to your liking then you can retrace your steps from point H to F where you can follow the lane through Hookway to (C) without much change in total distance or time.

Please remember to follow The Countryside Code.
