This is an extremely scenic walk of 2.5 miles and is mostly downhill if two cars are used, with one being left in Thorverton at the post office car park or outside the church.
The start is the small car park at Raddon Top (A) where there is a clearly marked footpath sign by the field gate which leads along the field edge towards the very well known landmark of the Lonesome Pine at (B).
According to local folklore, this is the last survivor of a group of trees that were planted in the mid 19th century to commemorate soldiers from the district who had died in the Crimean War.
The site commands superb views over the Exe Valley and as far as the Sidmouth Gap to the south, Dartmoor to the west and Exmoor to the north.
Follow the footpath signs, diagonally crossing a field towards Raddon Hill Farm. Shortly after passing the farmhouse take the footpath on your left at (C) skirting a number of fields before passing through a copse and emerging onto the road at (D).
Turn left and follow the road back to Thorverton (E).
