Spring is officially here – and so is the perfect excuse to get outside, explore and fill up your calendar with some fresh new plans! Whether you're keen to wander through town, explore nearby villages or just make the most of the longer days, there’s plenty happening in and around Crediton to keep you inspired.

From laugh-out-loud clowning workshops to nostalgic VE Day Cream Teas and spine-tingling Murder Mystery evenings, our What’sOn page is buzzing with events to suit everyone’s interests.

Theatre lovers, take note! On Friday 2nd May at 7.30pm, Living Room Theatre returns to the Crediton Arts Centre with The End is in the Beginning, a vibrant compendium of prose, poetry and play excerpts from Nobel Prize winner Samuel Beckett. Performers Philip Robinson and Sarah White will open up Beckett’s world in a fresh, engaging way that brings the language and characters to life.

Plus, on Thursday 1st May at 7.15pm, head to The Bookery for a fascinating discussion between Philip Robinson and Professor Laura Salisbury on Beckett’s work and influence. Want to get creative? Don’t miss the Flower Basket Making Workshop on Sunday 1st June with local artisan Jane Welsh at The White Room Creative Space. You’ll make your own curved willow basket – ideal for collecting garden flowers – with guidance and all materials included. Perfect for beginners!

And returning for its second year is the much-loved Big Boniface Bash– Crediton’s own mini Glasto! Taking place on Sunday 8th June in Newcombes Meadow, this lively celebration features rock bands, food trucks, and family fun – all with a quirky local twist. As the town celebrates its unique claim to fame as the home of the Christmas tree, expect to see a Christmas tree in the park… in summer. It’s bold, brilliant and not to be missed.

Step into history at Downes House and Gardens
Just outside Crediton, Downes House – a magnificent stately home with over 300 years of family history – is opening its doors this summer for a series of special guided tours. Once home to Sir General Redvers Buller, this historic house offers a glimpse into the past with its fascinating stories and stunning gardens. Tour dates: 21st–27th April, 5th–11th May, 26th May–1st June and 25th–31st August. Whether you're a history buff or just love a good wander through beautiful grounds, Downes House is well worth a visit.

Kick Start Art: Challenge 2 begins!
Calling all young artists! The second challenge of Kick Start Art is now live – and this time, it’s all about animals. Whether your child is roaring with ideas or just ready to try something new, this is a brilliant opportunity to get creative. Led by retired teacher and local legend Linda Williamson, Kick Start Art is open to all school-aged children living in Crediton and surrounding villages – whether they attend a local school or not. It’s all about trying new techniques, learning about different artists, and above all, having fun.
